Sarah Marino

Sarah Marino is a nature photographer, nature enthusiast, and writer based in rural southwestern Colorado in the United States. Sarah values open-mindedness, adaptability, and a dedication to the craft of photography in her creative practice, taking a slow approach to working with quiet subjects with a focus on exploration, connecting with nature, and seeing opportunity in any landscape.

Sarah is the author or co-author of a diverse range of educational resources for nature photographers on subjects including composition, photographing nature’s small scenes, black and white photography, and photographing North America’s desert landscapes. Sarah is a highly regarded photography teacher, focusing on mindset, practices that encourage creativity and personal expression, learning to see and photograph smaller scenes, and embracing an intentional style of photography that promotes deep observation and connection with the natural world.

Sarah, a co-founder of the Nature First Alliance for Responsible Nature Photography, also seeks to promote the responsible stewardship of wild places and public lands through her photography and teaching. She is nearing completion on two naturalist certifications through the Colorado Native Plant Master program and the Rocky Mountain Naturalist program. Sarah is also the recipient of the Trailblazer Award through the North American Nature Photography Association. Her photography and writing have appeared in publications across the globe and her clients have included conservation organizations like The Wilderness Society, Advocates for the West, and the Greater Yellowstone Coalition, beloved Colorado brands, top technology companies, and healthcare facilities.

Prior to transitioning to a full-time career in nature photography and teaching in 2020, Sarah served in a wide variety of leadership positions within Colorado-based nonprofit organizations and foundations. She holds a master’s degree in public administration, a bachelor of arts in American history, and a bachelor of science in business administration, all from the University of Colorado.
