Introducing Circle of Light
Creative practices are often sustained in spaces of silence and solitude. Yet these practices are themselves acts of connection—responses that emerge from, and contribute to, a larger web of relationship beyond the self.
Circle of Light grew from the recognition that meaningful work is cultivated through connection.
Through years of overlapping participation in the landscape photography community, we found ourselves returning to the same questions. What began as conversation and shared curiosity gradually evolved into an intentional response to what we perceive to be a gap in the prevailing narratives of landscape photography where dominant voices leave limited space for certain ways of seeing, working, and valuing photographic practice.
Six Voices. One Circle.
Circle of Light is a photography collective dedicated to elevating the art of nature photography by gently pushing beyond its conventional boundaries—creating space for perspectives and approaches that have too often gone unrecognised. Each of us brings a unique perspective, shaped by our individual experiences, stories, and creative practices. What unites us is not a single aesthetic or philosophy, but a shared commitment to authenticity, thoughtfulness, and care—for the land, for the craft, and for one another.
“United by a shared commitment to celebrating the beauty and complexity of the natural world, we approach our work with authenticity, reverence, and quiet intention.”
Working together allows us to expand the possibilities of our practices and probe the boundaries of our craft. Our collaborative approach brings our individual perspectives into dialogue, producing work that is richer, more nuanced, and more resonant than any single voice could achieve alone. We believe there is room—indeed, a need—for work that honours quiet intention, personal expression, and a reverent relationship with the natural world.
A Simple Goal
Our collective goal is simple: to foster a broader range of personal expression and creative flourishing in nature photography.
As with many visual art spaces, the aesthetic norms of nature photography have long been shaped by a relatively small group of voices with access to platforms, institutions, and decision-making power. In these contexts, taste—often framed as a form of expertise and shaped by intellectual and cultural values—functions as a legitimate source of power. Those positioned as arbiters of taste in galleries, publications, competitions, and funding bodies help determine what is most readily seen, celebrated, and remembered. This concentration of aesthetic power has shaped not only what is visible, but how photographic practices are understood, valued, and sustained, often marginalising quieter, more personal ways of seeing.
Circle of Light is grounded in a commitment to legitimising a broader aesthetic narrative and celebrating a diversity of creative practices, along with the ways in which we come to value these practices.
An Invitation
Circle of Light is an evolving collective. We are still learning, questioning, and refining our understanding of what this work can be. As we move forward, we invite you to witness the unfolding, to engage thoughtfully, and to reflect on what attentive, intentional practice might mean in your own work.
